The San Antonio Police Department's Volunteers In Policing (VIP)Program was awarded the 1st place service award for the "International Association of Chief's of Police (IACP) - Global Leadership in Policing Service Award". Mr. Juan Ayala of the San Antonio, Texas Police Department Volunteers in Policing (VIP) Program accepted the Award from the President of the International Association of Chief's of Police (IACP) at a ceremony held in Denver, Colorado in October 2009.

The presentation reads as follows: 

"The San Antonio Police Department has approximately 600 volunteers, ranging in age from 18 to 90 years old, who assist a police department of 2,000 sworn Officers and a city population of approximately 1.3 million people. The volunteer program began in 1997, and during the past 11 years, more than 2,000 San Antonio citizens have participated in this program."
